The Mini Top is designed to help introduce younger children to the concept of balance (and it’s great fun!)
The Mini Top encourages children up to the age of four to explore their centre of gravity in a clean, safe environment. It can be used indoors or outside, and being made from moulded sturdy plastic, it is very easy to clean.
Introducing concepts such as balance and gravity can be tricky for younger children with sensory processing disorders. The Mini Top is designed to help increase children’s awareness of their own body and centre of gravity to aid balance.
Children remain still when sat in the centre of the interactive sensory toy, but as soon as they move in any direction the top will move as well! This shifting centre of gravity provides excellent vestibular input and supports the development of gross motor skills.
The Mini Top has been carefully designed for use by children up to the age of four. And when they grow out of the Mini Top, the Giant Top from TFH provides the same type of experience, but for bigger children!
This downloadable leaflet from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust provides more details about the Vestibular System which controls balance and posture, in conjunction with vision and proprioception.
